Things I hear...

Being a youth pastor has its fair share of challenges as well as rewards that cannot be imagined. One of the small perks are the things I hear them say. Sometimes they are trying to be funny and other times... well, high school can be very stressful and sometimes your brain gets really tired!

I might put together a top ten of funny things I have heard...but here are two from this week.

Collin-
"Why? Because I know everything! I am omni...omni... uh?... what’s it called?"

I love that one!

(While sending a text)
Again Collin-
"You know Wednesday is the one word I can't spell. I have learned every word but that one."
And exactly two seconds later the next question:
"How do you spell Seriously?"

Seriously Collin? You know how to spell EVERY word but Wednesday?!?!

I love my job!

The toilet seat....

I am a man who was raised with all women in my home. So it would stand to reason that I should be
pretty well trained and in most areas I would say that I am. I am sure that my mother and my sisters would love to recount to you how difficult this process was with me. You see, I am stubborn and selfish and I do not change "my ways" easily.

Now, I am engaged to be married in March. My fiance' lives with my mom and I am over at her house a lot. Yesterday my fiance' called me into the bathroom. (A very odd place to be beckoned to be sure) Upon my arrival she is just standing staring at the toilet saying "fix it". I am thinking that it will not flush and I am not looking forward to the love of my life's BM overflowing in front of me. However, this was not the case...she had not even used the restroom. The toilet was already broken. What had caused the toilet to not be functioning properly was this: When I had gone to the restroom earlier I had left the toilet seat up!

My beautiful fiance' has already begun her training of me. This is one thing I was not well trained on...but it is not my families fault...you see with my stubbornness and laziness the women in my family were so happy to see that I had started lifting the seat and consequently...stoped peeing on it that they did not even bother trying to get me to put the seat all the way back down when I was done!

But this raises a very good question, I think. Why does the man have to lift the seat and put it back down?!? When the women in my family use the restroom they do not lift the seat to get it ready for me....but they DO expect me to put the seat down to get it ready for them.... Maybe I should be more chivalrous but.... it just does not seem fair to me.

I told her ok....I will put this seat down but when you leave here it needs to be "In the upright and locked position" ready for me! That did not go over too well. Nor, was it heeded. What do I do? Allow my self to be trained for the sake of being a gentleman or make a stand for the sake of fairness on behalf of men everywhere?!?
